TOYS“R”US CHILDREN’S FUND DONATES $200,000 TO THE AMERICAN RED CROSS TO SUPPORT RELIEF EFFORTS FOLLOWING HURRICANE IRENE

WAYNE, NJ (September 1, 2011) – Today, the Toys“R”Us Children’s Fund announced it will make a $200,000 donation to the American Red Cross to support relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene. The Red Cross is an internationally recognized disaster response organization that shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters.

“In the aftermath of storms such as Hurricane Irene, the American people depend on the Red Cross, and the Red Cross depends on the support of generous partners such as the Toys“R”Us Children’s Fund,” said Michael Brown, Vice President of Corporate and Foundation Partnerships for the Red Cross. “This donation by the Toys“R”Us Children’s Fund is critical to our ability to fulfill our humanitarian mission and help those in need.”

The Fund will provide $100,000 to the national Red Cross organization for its disaster relief efforts in hard hit areas, including Delaware, Maryland, New York, North Carolina, Virginia and multiple states across New England. Funding will be used to meet the immediate needs of children and families who have been displaced by the storm, or whose homes are without water or electricity.

The additional $100,000 will be allocated to the American Red Cross of Northern New Jersey, for its work with displaced and other affected families in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Sussex and Warren counties. New Jersey, which has been devastated by flooding, is home to Toys“R”Us, Inc. headquarters and where thousands of company employees live and work. Separately, Toys“R”Us, Inc. has provided funding to the Red Cross of Greater Somerset County in New Jersey for diapers and other essentials needed in local shelters.

Toys“R”Us, Inc. employees are being encouraged donate their time or money to help the American Red Cross in their local communities.

Company employees impacted by Hurricane Irene are being supported through the Geoffrey Fund, a Toys“R”Us program which offers financial assistance in times of hardship and allows employees to help one another.
