5 Reasons Why this Year’s Toys“R”Us Children’s Fund Gala was the Most Awesome Yet

Last night, leaders from the toy and baby products industries and their lucky guests gathered together in New York City to celebrate the 2016 Toys“R”Us Children's Fund Gala. Featuring entertainment from OneRepublic, Martin Short and an ensemble of surprise guests, the event raised more than $4.6 million to keep kids safe and help them in times of need.

Here are 5 reasons why this year’s Gala was so awesome:

  1. A Very Special Guest
The night was truly about the heart of the Fund’s mission: kids. Joining Toys“R”Us, Inc. Chairman and CEO Dave Brandon onstage was 11-year-old “Wish Kid” Grace, who bravely battled neuroblastoma and endured nine chemotherapy treatments while staying true to her nickname, Cookie (for being a tough cookie). In 2014, Make-A-Wish, one of our longtime charitable partners, granted Grace’s ultimate wish – to meet the Pope.

  2. OneRepublic
GRAMMY®-nominated songwriters, musicians and all around good guys, OneRepublic, serenaded the crowd with a medley of their chart-topping international hits, including “Stop and Stare,” “Secrets,” and “Good Life.” Not only can they put on an amazing show, but have used their success as a platform to help kids in need through the OneRepublic Good Life Foundation.

  3. Martin Short
Serving as our hilarious host for a 10th consecutive year, Emmy® and Tony Award®-winning comedian and actor Martin Short entertained Gala attendees with a uproarious comedy act, including renditions of his most well-known acts such as, Franc from Father of the Bride, Hillary Clinton and The Three Amigos.

  4. Celebrity Cameos
This year’s Gala continued its tradition of delivering unexpected, awesome moments with on-stage appearances from several surprise celebrities. Special guests included musician Paul Shaffer, former NFL quarterback Kurt Warner who delighted the audience with a game of catch, as well as actors and comedians Billy Crystal, Ana Gasteyer and Darrell Hammond.

  5. Our Charity Partners
Since its inception, the Toys“R”Us Children’s Fund has raised more than $115 million to provide much needed financial support and partnership to countless children’s charities that share the Fund’s mission to keep kids safe and help them in times of need. Every year, the Gala serves as a celebratory occasion and poignant opportunity to showcase our many programs, including partnerships with Make-A-Wish America, the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation and Save the Children, among others.

As we continue to work with these organizations, we remain grateful for the unwavering support from the toy and baby products industries, ultimately helping us to positively impact the lives of millions of children and families across the country.
