TOYS“R”US® TO HIRE 45,000 EMPLOYEES NATIONWIDE FOR THE 2012 HOLIDAY SHOPPING SEASON

Company Increases Hiring Plans Over Previous Year, Propelled by New Positions Dedicated to Fulfilling Orders Generated by Its Growing Omnichannel Capabilities; Seasonal Jobs Can Lead to Full-Time Employment as Retention Rate for Christmas Hires Grew to 15 Percent Immediately Following the 2011 Holiday Season


WAYNE, NJ – (September 25, 2012) – In preparation for its busiest time of year, Toys“R”Us® today announced plans to hire 45,000 seasonal employees to staff its stores and distribution centers across the country this holiday season. This number represents an increase from the approximately 40,000 seasonal workers hired last year, driven in part by the addition of positions in Toys“R”Us stores designated specifically to help fulfill orders resulting from the company’s newly enhanced omnichannel offerings such as “Buy Online, Pick Up In Store,” “Ship from Store” and “Ship to Store.” These omnichannel teams will work to ensure customers receive their purchases quickly and efficiently for a seamless in-store and online shopping experience, whenever, wherever and however they choose to shop with Toys“R”Us. They will also prepare pickup orders for customers who purchase items through the company’s new Free Layaway and Hot Toy Reservation programs. 

With substantial growth opportunities available, these seasonal jobs have the potential to become full-time positions for high-performing employees. Last year, approximately 15 percent of the holiday workforce retained positions with Toys“R”Us after the season ended. In addition, hundreds of past seasonal workers return year after year, providing incremental experience and expertise, to help THE toy authority with its busy Christmas shopping season.

Customer traffic in Toys“R”Us stores peaks in the weeks leading up to Christmas, and the company’s expanded holiday workforce plays a vital role in creating memorable shopping experiences and assisting gift-givers in bringing joy to their loved ones on Christmas morning. Hiring for positions at Toys“R”Us stores begins this week and will continue through December. Positions range from managerial roles and sales associates to inventory replenishment employees and omnichannel teams. In addition, jobs are available at the company’s 10 distribution centers, which began hiring in July and will also continue through December.
