Toys“R”Us opened its first stores in Canada in September 1984 with locations in Brampton and Hamilton, Ontario, followed by an additional store opening in Thornhill, Ontario in November of that year. Canada was the first country to debut the integrated Side-by-Side concept, which features the Toys“R”Us and Babies“R”Us brands under one roof, a model that has now been widely adopted by Toys“R”Us in the U.S. and in its other locations around the world. Toys“R”Us, Canada currently has more than half of its stores in the Side-by-Side format. It also operated Toys“R”Us Express locations since 2010.
Shoppers visiting Toys“R”Us stores in Canada will discover toys and baby products from well-known Canadian companies, such as Mega Brands, Orb Factory and Calego, as well as global toy manufacturers like Mattel, Hasbro, LEGO and SpinMaster. Toys“R”Us stores in Canada often host experiential events during which kids and parents can create or build a toy to take home.
